It's a Bit More Complicated Than That Podcast Trailer

Rachel: [00:00:00] When I read the blurb of your podcast, I thought this is just another angle to, to, what you're talking about because it is more complicated. I can't just say I have two kids. It's more complicated than that.

Rebecca: Hello, and welcome to It's a Bit More Complicated Than That, where we are listening to all the fascinating, sad, joyful, messy answers that follow the question, So, do you have kids?

I'm Rebecca.

Dannie-Lu: I'm Danny Lou,

Rebecca: I'm a parent.

Dannie-Lu: and I'm not. But it's a bit more complicated than that. And that's the same for pretty much every one of our guests.

Kathryn: I

think the fact that we're more open now is really good for the next generation down.

Rebecca: So I think it's quite good. I've already pressed record like some kind of, uh, spy.

Kathryn: Sneaky.

Rebecca: and I want to start asking questions so we should probably start asking questions.

Every episode, we ask one guest whether they're a parent or not, whether it's a bit more complicated than that, and a few other questions about their journey. we see where it

goes.

Dannie-Lu: And to finish, we give them a magic wand and ask if there's anything they'd change about society if they could.

Sam: I mean, your title is like spot on because as I get older and I've had more years to come to terms with being childless, you kind of do move a bit more into the child free waters if you like, because you've accepted it. You come to a place of acceptance It's hard to just sum it up in one word, you know, because it is this more of a kind of Movable Feast, where you're kind of transitioning from childless to childfree.

Esther: nobody dreams of being a step parent, I think. I mean, I think it's often through redesigned plans, repackaged dreams, [00:02:00] a new, a new adventure unfolds, you know, and you kind of have to embrace that adventure,

Kathryn: So it was very much a gender equality issue for

But it didn't matter that I didn't have children because I do, as I'm sure you will understand, have the capacity for empathy.

Dannie-Lu: So I didn't feel like I needed to have children.

Kathryn:

Well, I think that's the thing that, that unites everybody, wherever you're at, right?

Whether you're a parent, you're not a parent, whether it's by choice, by circumstance, by something else, like there's a lot of dealing. For everybody, because that's like life and we, it's always unexpected, you know, there are always unexpected elements and even things that we expected to get aren't how we expected them to be.

Berenice: This is such an important thing that you are doing. You are getting this conversation happening. and the repercussions, the ripples from this will be huge. I can see it already. it's so important. Well done, both of you.
